The EV Infrastructure & Energy Summit
The EV Transition is Gathering Pace
The UK’s electric vehicle (EV) market is accelerating at an unprecedented pace, despite waves of misinformation. In 2024 alone, the number of EVs on UK roads surged by 39%, reaching 1.4 million battery electric vehicles (BEVs), 800,000 plug-in hybrids, alongside 76,000 electric vans. This momentum isn’t slowing—one in four new cars registered in early 2025 was fully electric, marking a 37.4% year-on-year growth and proving that demand for EVs remains stronger than ever.
Oil Demand for Transport is Falling
Despite increased road traffic, UK oil demand fell by 1.4%, reducing emissions by 5.9MtCO2e. Meanwhile, the additional electricity demand from EVs - approximately four terawatt hours or just 1% of total UK consumption - resulted in only 0.5MtCO2e of additional emissions, a fraction of the savings from reduced oil consumption. EVs in the UK now deliver a 70% reduction in lifecycle emissions compared to petrol and diesel cars, underscoring their crucial role in decarbonisation.
Infrastructure is Scaling
Infrastructure is rapidly scaling to meet this demand. Zapmap figures show the UK has surpassed 75,000 public chargepoints, growing 32% year-on-year, with ultra-rapid chargers expanding by 74%. Backed by private investment and government initiatives like the Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) scheme, the UK remains on track to meet its 2030 target of 300,000 public chargepoints. This commitment to infrastructure growth is essential, as 80% of UK drivers could save money by switching to EVs, with estimated savings of £5,000 over a vehicle’s lifetime.
This autumn, the EV Infrastructure & Energy Summit is the pivotal chance to take stock. The agenda will tackle the pressing issues shaping the industry, including data transparency in chargepoint utilisation, the evolving business models for private finance, and the critical role of fleet and depot charging in electrifying logistics. Discussions will also explore the intersection of energy and transport, from integrating EVs into the power grid through smart charging and Vehicle-toGrid (V2G) technology to leveraging solar and renewable energy solutions for a cleaner transport future. The whole of the infrastructure ecosystem will be on site, make sure you block the date today, and secure your ticket. We’ll see you there!
