Hans Eric Melin

Hans Eric Melin is the founder and Managing Director of Circular Energy Storage Research and Consulting, a London-based firm specialising in the lifecycle and end-of-life market for lithium-ion batteries. Since 2017, the company has been a key source of data and analysis on global trends in battery reuse, recycling, and material recovery.

Before establishing Circular Energy Storage, Hans Eric served as Vice President of Market Development at Battery Solutions, the largest battery recycler in the United States. Prior to that, he was CEO of Refind Technologies, a company that develops AI-based sorting systems for battery recycling plants.

Through his work, Hans Eric has helped spotlight critical industry issues such as China’s dominance in battery reuse, recycling, and material production; the global export of used battery-containing devices; and how user behavior and ownership models impact battery lifecycle more
than technical limitations alone.

His insights have been featured in top academic journals, including Science and Nature, and cited widely in global media outlets such as Bloomberg, The Wall Street Journal, and Wired Magazine.
